Everyone says there's no point of spending 9k on university and I have a lot of friends that haven't gone to university or graduate because they don't want to debt however, I feel is probably the best investment I have made as a degree will last you a lifetime and I'm enjoying what course I'm doing. The SU are helpful when you need anything and put on some great nights and activities. Students don't get good results here. This uni has amazing services for wellbeing, mental health, academic skills and provides help for people with disabilities - including a religion centre where people of all sorts of different religions can pray. Vibey, small though, very woke! And it also helps that I like Huddersfield as a town and place to just go and chill, much better than Manchester. Gantastic uni. However, as someone who has studied at a Russell Group university before transferring to Huddersfield, I can say that, for me, Huddersfield wins hands down in several ways. Honestly was terrified of going to university but the media and journalism team have helped me settle in and get used to the change in timetables and living away from home. Wasn’t good with meeting new people or socialising with people I didn’t know before uni and that made me stay at the sixth form attached to my high school. It has a brilliant community, with small class sizes and smaller societies. We are updated often, communication is transparent and I'm allowed to innovate and try new things. Careers service nothing to shout about, you basically have to do it all yourself and often feel like you are being palmed off. The University of Huddersfield is not necessarily a high-profile university in the UK, especially in comparison to many of the Russell Group institutions. Will highly recommend this university. The campus is nice and pretty easy to get too and although because of COVID we haven’t had the full experience of on campus lessons, I’ve had a good experience when being there. Overall experience has feels like high school, the only reason I got through my course was my determination and my friends studying with me. When I ended my BA in Communication Design I followed the suggestion of some mentors who explained to me how it is important to speak an international language today. My first year at this uni has been great couldn’t fault it, Great great great great great hreat great hreat. Only downside in my experience have been the societies, some of which seem to be badly run. Gender. The university itself has brilliant facilities, the library has various floors with many computers and laptops to use, they have private study rooms which book up incredibly fast, so many that’s something to think about in the future. Good facilities and amazing support. It is an great Uni, with amazing charm and a very personal touch, you will know every person on your course by your second year, a probably about half the campus. The buildings are all modern unlike Coventry's flashback to the 60s/70s. The library is perfect to get university work done ans where I spent most of my time. Good training opportunities, supportive teams and lots of employee benefits. The help and gudiedess from tutors was always their when needed. Shockingly average societies, lack of unison between university and the societies with a lack of teams as well (Hockey). Haven't tried the careers service yet but it seems to be good, wi fi is good and the offer of societies is great too.
